A Driver- CDL (B) is responsible for safely operating a collection truck, and providing prompt, courteous and complete waste removal services for customers. In addition, a Driver – CDL (B) is responsible for ensuring his or her vehicle is in compliance with the Company’s safety standards prior to operating the vehicle, ensures that all Company, state and federal regulations are adhered to at all times while operating the vehicle, and completes vehicle condition reports on a daily basis to ensure that any vehicle defects are repaired in a timely manner.

  • Operates vehicle and preforms all tasks in accordance with Arc GLOW Safety Rules and Operating Standards, OSHA, and DOT as well as all local, state and federal laws.
  • Perform and complete pre- and post-operation inspection of the vehicle in accordance with agency policy to ensure tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls are in proper working order. Report any safety issues on standard reports.
  • Safely operate heavy truck along designated route and to the disposal site; read route sheet, follow map and service each customer as identified on the route sheet or as assigned by supervisor.
  • Driver safely maneuvers vehicle in residential environments. Navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots.
  • Directs work activity and is responsible for the safety of the assigned crew
  • Properly utilizes all required Personal Protective Equipment and truck safety equipment while following all required safety procedures
  • Operate manual and/or automatic controls in accordance with Agency safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate compactor and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
  • Courteously interact with all customers, dispatchers and others on a daily basis to ensure all customer routes are serviced in a timely and professional manner.
  • Continuously monitor waste/recyclables for evidence of unacceptable materials.
  • Completely dumps all receptacles and leaves the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
  • Clean area around an accidental waste spill, ensuring adherence to all applicable safety standards and policies.
  • Continuously monitor the condition of the vehicle to ensure it is operationally ready at all times to minimize down time; clean waste from the packer blade and truck body (where appropriate) on each disposal trip.
  • Complete required route/productivity sheets, and other reports, as required.
  • Maintain adherence to required productivity standards for the department to ensure all customers are serviced in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Works closely with Coordinator of Business Services to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Notifies Coordinator of Business Services of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
Materials Handling
  • Required to use motor coordination with arm, hand, finger, and leg dexterity.
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling objects more than 50 pounds frequently.
  • Requires pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Materials Handling
  • Will be based at Arc GLOW West Main site.
  • Will be exposed to a physical environment, which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements most of the workday.
    • Note: The level of physical effort may vary from site to site and in some cases be greater or lesser than documented here.
  • Assists with customer service on Transfer station if necessary
    • Interactions with staff and customers
    • Duties include moving trash and recyclables to proper areas
    • Proper accounting of redemption area
    • General cleanliness and organization of the work area
  • Becomes proficient at safe and efficient operation of the cardboard baler
  • Become forklift certified

    • Able to move bales of product and load semi-trailers

  • Conducts self in such a manner as to meet agency policies and standards at all times.
  • Punctuality and attendance during scheduled work hours are essential functions of this position.
  • This position requires a valid NYS Drivers License, CDL; Class A or B with an Air Brake endorsement. As well as an acceptable driving record as determined by Arc GLOW. While driving an Agency vehicle or driving a personal vehicle on Agency business, all NYS laws and Agency policies pertaining to driving must be adhered to at all times.
