GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Shares responsibility for administering Alma library services platform. Selects materials for reference, circulating, reserve, film, and audio collections. Provides reference duties on a weekly basis during Fall/Spring semesters and as needed. Provides leadership in the development and assessment of services provided. Participates actively in the academic life of the institution.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

Shares responsibility with Systems Librarian for monitoring and troubleshooting of library services platform and circulation operations and processes.

Develops, maintains and distributes Alma documentation for library staff.

Provides library staff training in Alma operations.

Works with Systems Librarian and library staff to develop and implement customized reports and statistical programs.

Works with Computer Services and library staff to develop, implement, schedule and troubleshoot Banner to Alma patron download programs.

Selects materials for circulating, reference, reserve, film, e-books, and audio collections, using recognized review media, with input from librarians and faculty. Provides order information for acquisitions clerk and creates purchase orders in Library Services Platform.

Formulates collection develop policies Formulates college procedures associated with collection development for cabinet review.

Selects materials purchased with grant funds; prepares consortia grant applications and reports; collaborates with faculty in specific subject development areas.

Coordinates selection and monitoring of vendors.

Tracks materials budget lines for relevant areas and provides input to annual budget process.

Prepares supporting documentation, including bibliographies, in support of new curricula and program reviews, upon request.

Assists in public relations efforts by maintaining a new book shelf

Weeds collection, involving faculty as appropriate.

Processes donations, selects materials to retain and provides acknowledgement to donors.

Identifies replacement titles for patrons at Circulation Clerk's request.

Serves on college Curriculum Committee and other committees as appropriate.

Provides reference desk services on a weekly basis and as needed (occasional evenings and weekends may be required).

Contributes to library strategic planning, policy and procedure development.

Maintains and generates reports and statistics.

Actively pursues professional growth and development.

Represents library and college at appropriate meetings and events (occasional evenings and weekends may be required)..

Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:


QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Background:

Masters degree in Library Science from ALA accredited program

Experience:

Demonstrated experience in configuring and administering the library services platform (ALMA preferred). Experience with collection development principles and mechanisms, bibliographic instruction and reference service.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong analytical/problem solving and organizational abilities, and critical thinking skills.

Effective oral and written communications skills

Experience in an academic library preferred

Experience with software applications needed to administer current library services platform databases (such as Alma, Banner, etc.)

Proficiency in using MS Office software products, including Excel, Access, and Word

Demonstrated understanding of client/server environment.

Ability to learn new software applications and technologies

Knowledge of library circulation, reserve, cataloging, and technical services operations.

Must demonstrate sensitivity to people with diverse cultural and racial backgrounds.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a 200 day faculty position calling for a probationary academic appointment. After four (4) successive years of satisfactory service, the incumbent will be considered for a continuing appointment. Initial rank and salary placement are dependent upon educational background and experience.

Salary, benefits, and conditions of employment are as set by the GEA contract.

RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to Associate Dean of Library and Academic Support Services. Works interactively with Senior Library Clerks and Librarian colleagues . Works cooperatively with all members of the library and academic support staff.

Works closely with GCC faculty, Perkins goal director(s), SUNY Office of Library and Information Services, SUNY Library Services, SUNY Libraries Consortium and external accreditation reviewers.

May supervise college work-study students and/or special project staff
