Marketing and Events Associate

The Marketing and Events Associate is responsible for: developing and implementing programs to support the business development activities of the affiliates of Tompkins Financial, managing virtual and in person events across the Tompkins footprint; achieving goals as established in the Marketing Sales and Service Effectiveness group's annual operating plan.

 

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Marketing and Events Associate provides strategic direction and technical support for regional community relations, business development, promotions and events for the affiliates of Tompkins Financial Corporation
    • With oversight from the Marketing Manager, leads assigned project and task implementation
    • Employs project management techniques to ensure completion of projects on schedule and on budget. Scopes and analyzes project requirements and develops cost estimates
    • Partners with market leaders to identify opportunities for events and promotions
    • Provides strategic direction and technical support for business development activities, promotions and events for the affiliates of Tompkins Financial
    • Acts as the Voice of the Customer in the implementation of new initiatives to ensure consistency with the brand promise
  • Executes tactical elements of the Annual Marketing calendar:
    • Prepares and distributes materials relating to press releases, presentations, promotions, communications and advertising.
    • Implements the content of Tompkins social media programs, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and the company blog
    • Supports the creation and distribution of direct mail and electronic mail programs, including the MasterCard program and Tompkins Email program.
      • Creates emails with content from Creative Content Specialist and Communications Specialist
      • Works with the Digital Marketing Manager to identify and implement email marketing automation workflows
      • Works with Marketing Efficiency to develop contact lists
      • Produces and sends internal communications to stakeholders
    • Leads the planning and execution of internal and external live and virtual events, such as trade shows, community outreach, mortgage seminars, sales banquets, and community events
      • Partners with appropriate staff to generate ideas
      • Coordinates with media and PR agencies to promote events
      • Coordinates with Content Program and Communications Specialists to ensure events are integrated appropriately with other marketing initiatives
      • Coordinates resources and staff to set up and work at events, as needed
  • Supports the Creative Content Specialist in creating digital and ATM screens, TConnect banners and Community ads, advertising, brochures, flyers, handouts, postcards, and other printed material; works with printers to produce and distribute final product.
  • Works with the Compliance department to ensure all assigned customer-facing materials are approved via the Compliance database before deployment
  • Complies with established operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the company's adherence to outside regulatory requirements.
  • Collects biographical data from new employees as required and coordinates professional photos for same
  • Solicits video and photo content from employees to be used in social media program and produces video content as required
  • Responsible for data input, maintenance and reporting for various systems. Processes assigned invoices as required
  • Maintains departmental files for audits by regulatory agencies
  • Attends, and represents the company at various community, business, and educational functions to develop an awareness of the company's services, and to strengthen the company brand image.
  • Maintains appropriate records and provides assigned reports.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations or communications, or equivalent Associate’s degree with 2 years of relevant experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in event planning/sales/media/public relations-related positions is required. Experience in financial services industry preferred.
  • Ability to take the initiative to manage workload and work independently on projects and assignments, as well as within a team environment.
  • Proficient composition skills; ability to write effective news releases and develop advertisements and brochures;
  • Proficient computer skills; familiarity with MS Office, content creation (such as HubSpot), and media tracking, and graphic design software programs.
  • Current working knowledge of advertising and media outlets; familiar with adaptive visual and auditory skills.
  • Proficient interpersonal relations, communication, and public relations skills;
  • May require 1-2 days per quarter overnight travel in order to provide service at company locations.
  • Valid Driver’s License
 

 

Physical Requirements:

Requires the ability to lift 0-10 lbs. on a frequent basis. Movement that may be required for a prolonged period of time, includes, but is not limited to: sitting, standing, bending, leaning, pushing, reaching and keying/data entry/typing as is common and typical in a branch/office environment.
