Universal Hiring Practices: Benefits of Hiring A Person With A Disability

The Genesee County Chamber is pleased to announce its next Business Workshop, Universal Hiring Practices: Hiring Someone With A Disability.

It is well known that hiring is a problem for employers here in Genesee County. Unemployment is low and the pool of capable workers is shrinking. To meet these hiring needs, local businesses need to explore new and diverse options that are available here in our local communities.

To help with this process the Genesee County Chamber has partnered with the Arc of Genesee Orleans to provide a training on the benefits of hiring a person with a disability. This pool of diverse employees will provide a highly productive, community focused, dedicated group of new hires to your employee base.

The Learning Objectives of the training:

-Gain practical knowledge about using the Job Accommodation Network (JAN on the web) online for current or prospective employees needing temporary or long-term job accommodations

-Gain knowledge of free accommodation ideas, including working with the Arc of Genesee Orleans

-Gain practical knowledge about using the O*NET Online (Occupational Network) as a resource to analyze current or create new job descriptions, including delineating essential job functions.

-Gain knowledge about most current financial incentives and tax credits for businesses that employ people with disabilities, as well as how to stay current year to year.

-Gain understanding about Arc of Genesee Orleans as an ongoing consultation resource to support businesses in attracting and retaining qualified workers.
